Biketoria – over 24 km of protected cycling infrastructure was approved recently in the City of Victoria. Hub City Cycles would like to congratulate the GNCC on its work to get this passed.
This hopefully will encourage the City of Nanaimo to consider protected bike lanes for Nanaimo in accessible areas. It’s not enough to paint a bicycle on the side of the road or randomly designate lanes as ‘bicycle friendly’. For useful access that makes people feel safe, lanes have to be wide enough and separated from the road. As Vancouver has proven, it is enough to increase cycling by a significant margin.
