Description:
Guiseppe Marinoni is a peculiar man: a craftsman, a philosopher, an artist, and a committed athlete. Born in Italy, he spent his youth racing bicycles around the countryside. In 1964, he came to Canada to participate in a race, and after meeting the woman of his dreams, decided to stay for good. Following his illustrious racing career, Marinoni found his calling when he started crafting his own brand of steel bicycles. He often worked days without sleep, giving up riding bikes in favour of building them. But his time in the workshop, hunched over toxic fumes, eventually took a toll on his body. After a long stretch off the saddle, and also upon doctor’s orders, he took up riding again. Today, at age 75, Marinoni is in peak physical form. In fact, he decided to give racing another go by attempting to beat the world hour record for his age group, indisputably the most punishing event on two wheels. What’s more, he’s going to try it on a bike he built with his own hands almost 40 years before.
