Unlike the actual skill of riding a bicycle, hand signals are pretty easy to forget if you
don’t use them a lot. So, here are a few tricks to remember which signal is which.
When signalling, use your left hand. This is the hand that controls your front brakes.
That way, if you have to make an emergency stop while signalling, you’ll be force
to use your right hand / back brakes to stop… you can’t fly over the front handles
when you slam on the back brakes.
Since you’re using your left hand, just point when you want to turn left.
“Right up!” Remember this phrase when you want to turn right. Make a 90º angle with
your arm and keep your hand up.
How do you stop an argument? By putting your foot down. So, do the same with your
hand when you want to stop. Make a 90º angle with your arm and keep your hand down.
