Hi, my name is Tyler, and I’m a mechanic/mountain biker/bike-tourist from Victoria.  In September of 2011, I was in Budapest Hungary, just beginning a four month solo bike trip into the surrounding countryside.

I was riding slowly through a crowded touristy area downtown on a beautiful sunny day, with my bike and saddle bags.   Around me where people speaking more languages than I could recognize; French, Italian, Serbian, English, Romanian, Russian?  Who knows!  It was a pretty awesome spectacle.  Checking out the crowds ahead of me however, I noticed a bottle-neck area where the crowd was forced to walk into a tight location next to a fence and a building.  In amongst the crowd, I noticed three figures, standing, and staring at me.

Over the crowd, I could hear their voices, Hungarian.  They were local.  As I neared their location, I watched one of them move across from the other two, his eyes still on me.  I recognized the situation, Ive heard of it before:  One individual distracts an individual, while someone else, from behind, rifles through their bag.  Within a breath of my own recognition, my intuition took over, my body changed direction, and I headed for another place.   Scary, but luckily, just a close call.  As a cycle-tourist and world traveler, Ive been in a variety of hairy situations.

Members are freeeee!  $5 admission for general public.
