Wow, what a turn out! Thank you Slow Spokes for organizing such a great event, and also thank you to everyone who came out. We’re looking forward to next year.
One of the beneficiaries of the day was the Woodlands Twisted Spokes Bike Club. A whopping $365 was generated for the club in cash, in addition to receiving a nice Raleigh Road Bike to be repaired and sold, with the proceeds going towards funding the club.
The Woodlands Twisted Spokes Bike Club is a weekly after-school bike club taking place at Woodlands Secondary School, focusing on rider safety and bike mechanics. Currently the club meets Thursdays from 3-5pm in a portable behind the school. Parents, teachers, and students have all been bringing in their bikes to the club get repaired; individuals then pay the club for parts needed to fix their bikes, plus a donation to the club. Riley, Mike, Jesse, Jeremy, Lorne, plus several others have been solidly volunteering with the club; learning about bike mechanics, and repairing the bikes that are brought in to keep the club rolling!!
Want to take part? The club is in need of used bike parts, tools, stands, you name it: We’re doing our best to keep things rolling there with the tools and parts we have. Students are using funds created to purchase new and used parts from Hub City. The club also has a couple adult volunteers helping out; we always welcome new volunteers young and old!
